As part of his job working as a correspondent for EWTN covering the Vatican and Pope Francis, Colm Flynn has traveled. The Irishman often covers human interest stories, as well as religious topics.
Recently his work took him to East Timor, in Southeast Asia. While there he went to visit the Alma Nuns at work in their orphanage, and came across an adorable little girl with disabilities who decided to sing to him.
As Flynn explains, the youngster, like so many others, had been abandoned by her parents because of her disabilities when she was born. The Sisters stepped in, caring for her and offering her love, a home, and a future.
In honor of Flynn's visit, the little girl had learned the popular song "You Are My Sunshine," to sing to the journalist -- not the easiest task when you're singing all alone, and we're not sure what her native language is, considering the country boasts 15 national languages!
Dedication to God and the vulnerable
However gorgeous her rendition is, it's also important to highlight the incredible work these Sisters carry out. In the last 20 years they have given shelter and love to over 2,000 children with disabilities. Their dedication to God and the children sees them wake at 4.30 a.m. for prayers, before spending the day caring for these children, some of whom have serious disabilities.
