Venerable Bruno Lanteri is a saint perhaps more know by the order he founded than by his name. He is the founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, well known for their work in spiritual direction and discernment. One of his spiritual sons is Fr. Timothy Gallagher, author of several books.
In a book on Venerable Bruno's biblical way of praying the Mass, Fr. Gallagher recounts how he has shared a spiritual program proposed by Venerable Bruno to a wife and mother of four.
The daily spiritual program has four concrete steps:
1Assist at Mass during the week when it is possible "without strain"
2Fifteen minutes of meditative prayer
3Read one page from a spiritual book
4An examination of conscience at a moment of the day when the hands are busy but the mind is free
This program can appeal to even the busiest among us, and could be a great way to start or re-start a prayer life, a particular time of liturgical grace, or after you've received the Sacrament of Confession and are ready to embark anew on your relationship with Christ.
You can find a lot of information on this holy priest at the web site of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. There, we read:
Venerable Pio Bruno Lanteri (1759-1830) served the Church in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. It was a turbulent era both in secular society and in the Church. In the secular sphere, the anti-Christian spirit of the French Revolution was running rampant. Among those who continued to practice religion, the Jansenist heresy obscured the truth of God’s love, while other ideologies undermined the authority of the Pope.
“We can never hope too much. The one who hopes for everything, obtains everything.”
